More than just sushi catering service
Most of us realize that noodles are popular in Japan and other Asian countries. But when most of us hear the word ‘noodles’ we think about the instant variety. This is unfortunate as Asian noodles come in many varieties, with instant being considered the cheapest variety.
Asia noodles might best be compared to spaghetti or other pastas.
Japanese noodles many be made of wheat, rice, seaweed (kelp), mung beans, potato, or sweet potato.
Noodles may be boiled, baked, or fried. Cold noodles may be part of a salad. Hot noodles may be the basis of a soup.
Some popular varieties are:
- Ramen: Thin wheat noodles, yellow in colour, firm in texture.
- Shirataki: Clear noodles with a chewy, rubbery texture.
- Soba: Buckwheat noodles, popular in broth, or cold with dipping sauce.
- Udon: Thick wheat noodles, served hot in winter and cold in summer.
- Tokoroten: Jelly like noodles
- Harusame: Clear potato noodles.
